July Camp NaNoWriMo Update: Midway

Hi friends, I’m back from my unannounced, extended hiatus. I had it in my mind that July would be super productive, an awesome month for my mental health, and that my body would be on the way to being in tip-top shape. Oh, how the gods mock me…

How did it get so late so soon?

I mean, whatever, life happens, and despite it all, I’m still pushing through on my book, on my poems, and in my positive mental health journey. But there have been some obstacles, as there are in life, and I’m getting through them. Let’s do a quick Camp NaNoWriMo update:

  • Initial goal for July: Write 10,000 words

  • Words written as of July 18, 2021: 5,738

  • Quality of said words: meh

Yeah, I set the goal pretty low, as it’s just a revision, and what I’m adding is a minimal storyline that will hopefully enrich the plot, but we’ve yet to see. And, despite my funny self-deprecating line about the quality of the writing, I’ve actually been quite proud of what I’ve been producing, even if it’s minimal in length. There are actually a few really great lines. Like:

Waves crashed against shores and satellites spun in the skies. If mountains could form in seconds, surely the world would be a giant peak, splintered earth stretching to reach the heavens, and maybe then humans would understand.

I’ve also been learning a lot about the importance of narrative exposition through my reading of books. I’ve read a book a week for the past month or so, and there is so much diversity and importance in the feel and development of a story through narrative exposition, which hopefully these new sections are adding to my book. Only time can tell ;).

Anyway! Despite my trough of bad luck lately, I’m feeling optimistic that I’ll be able to finish my book soon and begin the process of submitting it to agents and publishers again. In the meantime, be sure to check out my Patreon and consider subscribing to one of my three tiers for goodies, personalized poems, and potentially a whole poetry chapbook every month! Can’t wait to see you there.
